New same-day evening and weekend GP appointments coming to Leicestershire

From 1 April 2026, people registered with GP practices in Leicestershire will be able to access new and improved same-day GP appointments during evenings, weekends and bank holidays. These appointments are designed to make it easier for people to get urgent help for non-life-threatening health concerns, with more appointments, longer consultation times and consistent availability across the county.

Appointments will be available Monday to Friday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, Saturdays from 9am to 5pm, and Sundays and bank holidays from 10am to 2pm. They will be delivered at local GP practices and health centres in areas including Mountsorrel, Hinckley, Ashby, Coalville, Melton, Lutterworth, Market Harborough, Leicester Forest East and Oadby.

These new appointments replace services previously provided at urgent care centres in Coalville, Enderby, Hinckley, Market Harborough, Lutterworth and Melton, which will close on 31 March 2026. People will still be able to walk in for urgent help at Loughborough, Oadby and Merlyn Vaz urgent treatment centres, as well as the minor injury units in Market Harborough and Melton.

Patients will continue to access help in the same way — by contacting their GP practice or NHS 111, who will book them into the appointment type best suited to their needs.

Patients across Leicestershire will soon be invited to give their views on the new appointment model by completing a short questionnaire.
