Your voices matter: Experiences of people in Supported Living

Our latest insight report explores the experiences of people living in supported living accommodation, alongside the views of their carers and families.
The report, ‘Your voices matter: Experiences of people in Supported Living’, brings together feedback from 50 people including 31 individuals using supported living services and 19 carers. Through visits, conversations and surveys, we heard directly about what is working well and where improvements are needed.

Many people spoke positively about dedicated support staff, help with independence, and opportunities to take part in community activities. However, the report also highlights ongoing concerns, including high staff turnover, inconsistent support, communication challenges, housing issues, loneliness and carers feeling unheard when raising concerns.

People told us they want support that is more personalised, better continuity of care, clearer communication and greater involvement in decisions about their lives and care. Carers shared worries about poor management practices, missed 1:1 support hours, and uncertainty about the future for their loved ones.

The report makes recommendations which include improving staff training and handovers, strengthening mental health and emotional support, expanding social and wellbeing activities, reviewing housing suitability and ensuring people without family advocates have someone to support and represent them.
